The level of copyedit is based on the author’s preference.
Multiple passes to flag, query, and make notes on:
Consistent formatting and spacing
Consistent spelling and word choice
Consistent punctuation and usage
Identify any instances that have repetition, or feel familiar
Areas of confusion that may need clarity
Identify grammatical errors
Flag any language that may be hurtful or harmful to readers

Multiple passes to ensure consistency and completeness between the draft manuscript and the edited manuscript, or between the edited manuscript and the publishing proof. Includes:
Flagging errors in formatting
Flagging errors in spacing, font size, chapter headings, etc.
Flagging missing (or added) words and punctuation that were not present in the edited manuscript
Verifying pagination
